Symphony Wows the Audience

Wow! What a start to our new season with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra.

My wife Barbara and I have been listening to and supporting the orchestra since 1990. We used to think that it was a great orchestra for New Bedford; now it is a great orchestra for any medium-sized city in America. David MacKenzie, our conductor, has brought enthusiasm that is infectious and expertise that is a wonder to behold.

Moving out of the Zeiterion for the Mozart Requiem introduced many of us to one of New Bedford's treasures, St. Anthony of Padua Church. The music in that church made one think that they were in a cathedral in Europe. The orchestra and choir were at their best, and everyone was saying "Wow!" when it was over.

The next event on December 15th is every year's favorite, and I urge you get your tickets early as it will sell out. During this concert the youth of our community will be singing, dancing and playing instruments, something you might not experience in a large city orchestra.

I urge some of the people who have written angry editorials this year to go to the concert and get in the holiday spirit. You will see the finest of what our city can do and the wonder and skill of the young people who live here.

No, I am not an employee of the symphony, nor am I on their board of directors. Yes, I am enthusiastic, and you will be also after attending a concert and come to enjoy the quality of our old-yet-new orchestra.
